Converting Tabs into Tables | Microsoft WORD for Beginners

 

 

If you type text in Word and use tab to divide it into columns, you can convert it into a table. Microsoft Word has a useful tool that helps you to quickly transform a text into a table, and vice versa. We will show you how to transform text that is divided into columns with tabs and turn it into a table. Select the text that you need and go to Insert tab. Look for Table option at the top tolls bar. Click on it and choose Convert Text to Table from the list. A small window will open. Set the value for number of columns, so we set it to 3. Set Separate text at to Tabs. Click Ok. You can see the text is now transformed into a table. Let’s make some changes when we create a table. Select the text that you need and go to Insert tab. Look for Table option at the top tools bar. Click on it and choose Convert Text to Table from the list. A small window will open. Set the value for number of columns, so we set it to 3. Go to Autofit Behavior. You can set how wide the table will be. You have three options. Let’s choose AutoFit to Contents. Set Separate text at to Tabs. Click Ok. You can see the text is now transformed into a table. You can pull the corners of the table to make it bigger or smaller, but the size of the cells will still fit the contents of the table. Let’s make a table with text that has only one column. Select the text that you need and go to Insert tab. Look for Table option at the top tolls bar. Click on it and choose Convert Text to Table from the list. A small window will open. Set the value for number of columns, so we set it to 1. Set Separate text at to Other. Type Space in the empty space next to it. You can see that the value number for columns has changed to 2. Click Ok. You can see the text is now transformed into a table. Let’s make one last table out of text. Select the text that you need and go to Insert tab. Look for Table option at the top tools bar. Click on it and choose Convert Text to Table from the list. A small window will open. Set the value for number of columns, so we set it to 4. Set Separate text at to Other. Click Ok. You can see the text is now transformed into a table. Type a comma in the empty space next to it. Click Ok. You can see the text is now transformed into a table.
